Robber Strikes Same Bank Of America Branch Again
CHICAGO (STMW) - A man suspected in the robbery of a Bank of America branch on the Southeast Side at the end of December apparently returned to that same bank branch to rob it on Friday. It was one of two stops he made at Bank of America branches on the Southeast Side Friday afternoon, according to the FBI. He succeeded in robbing one of these two branches.
The Bank of America branch at 9233 S. Commercial Ave. was robbed about 1:30 p.m. Friday when a man wearing a light blue knit hat implied he had a weapon but did not show it, according to police News Affairs Officer Daniel O'Brien. He got away with an unidentified amount of cash, O'Brien said.
Following that robbery, another incident happened at the Bank of America branch at 1651 E. 95th St. -- less than two miles away from the Commercial Avenue address-- FBI spokeswoman Cynthia Yates said. According to the FBI though, that was an attempted bank robbery.
There was no indication anyone had been injured in either incident, Yates said on Friday.
According to the FBI, the same man is suspected of having robbed the Bank of America branch at 9233 S. Commercial Ave. on Tuesday, Dec. 28. About 10:09 a.m. on that day, a man presented a teller with a note demanding money and saying he had a bomb, police said. The teller complied and the robber fled with an unknown amount of money. No one was injured in that bank robbery, police said. In the December robbery he was wearing a White Sox baseball cap, according to a bank surveillance photo.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 30s to 40s, with a stocky build, about 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6 and approximately 250 pounds, according to the FBI.
