Robber Shot And Killed, Victim Turns Out Pockets To Get Money Back
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A teenage robber was shot and killed outside a Southwest Side barbershop over the weekend and a robbery victim turned out the robber's pockets to get money back as the teen lay wounded on the street.
Police said the teen was shot while fleeing a robbery at a barbershop at 3102 W. 63rd St. at about 4:40 p.m. Friday. Another robber got away, but someone inside the shop shot the teen just outside the shop.
Police initially said the barber shop owner fired the shots, but later said the shooter remains unknown.
"It may have been a customer. They're still looking into it. They don't have anyone identified. It may even have been the owner," a Wentworth Area detective said.
One of the robbery victims ran outside after the teen was shot and rummaged through his pockets, getting back the money he allegedly stole, police said. That person then ran away and is being sought by police.
The teen, later identified as 17-year-old Marcus Nunn, of 5421 S. Paulina St., was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, the Cook County Medical Examiner's office said.
Nunn's accomplice ran east on 63rd Street and dumped a .38 caliber weapon in a nearby Dumpster. Police have recovered the gun, but the accomplice was not in custody Monday morning.
The investigation is ongoing and police are trying to identify everyone who was inside the shop when the crime occurred, police said. Wentworth Area detectives are investigating.
