Robber Holds Up Bank In Jewel Store On Near West Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A grocery store bank on Chicago's Near West Side was held up Saturday morning.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, a surveillance photo of the suspect shows a man in a blue baseball cap, glasses and a long-sleeved button-down shirt. He is African-American, standing about 5 feet 9 inches tall and weighing about 230 pounds, the FBI said.
The FBI says the man handed a note to a teller at the TCF Bank branch inside the Jewel at 1220 S. Ashland Ave.
He got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
This is the 141st bank robbery in the Chicago area so far this year, according to the FBI. That is more than the total for all of last year, which was 115.
The economy apparently cannot be blamed, because the FBI says Chicago peaked at 286 bank robberies in 2006, before the economic downturn.
