Robbed Little League Team Takes The Field With Donated Uniforms, Gear
TINLEY PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A month ago, it was looking like game over for a Little League team in Hobart, Ind.
Their money for uniforms were missing, their coach accused of taking it.
But Friday, it was game on, thanks to the generosity of a Tinley Park business.
The Deep River Devils took to the field in their bright yellow uniforms, and with donated bats and balls.
The help was needed because a month ago, after collecting some $7,000 in cash from parents, the former coach allegedly ran off with the money. He's now been charged with 10 counts of felony theft.
The drive to equip the Devils was the idea of a local sporting good store.
"It's an American pastime and it's a rite of spring," businessman Jim Garner tells CBS 2's Mike Parker.
So, Friday, pitcher Andrew Mojica was able to be out there, representing Hobart against a Tinley Park team.
The parents were happy to see their kids playing ball.
"They've learned a lesson from this," Gayle Benton said. "There is bad, but there's also good people out there.
