Riverside Police Arrest Three Boys For Stealing UPS Packages
RIVERSIDE, Ill. (STMW) -- Riverside police arrested three boys Thursday for stealing UPS packages in the west suburb.
Two 14-year-old boys and another, 17, were walking in the 200 block of Herrick Road around 11:30 a.m. when they decided to steal packages they saw a UPS driver leave at a home, according to a release from Riverside Police Department.
The homeowner received a text message around 11:45 a.m. saying the packages had arrived but called police about 45 minutes later when he could not find the deliveries outside his property, the release said.
Before police arrived, the homeowner saw fresh shoe prints in the snow and followed them from his driveway to the corner of East Burlington Street and North Cowley Road, the release said. Upon arrival, police followed the footprints from that intersection to the front door of a home in the 100 block of East Burlington Street.
Police knocked on the door and eventually took three boys inside the home in to custody, whose shoe prints matched the ones leading to the home, the release said.
All three juveniles were charged with one count of misdemeanor theft and were turned over to their guardians.
