Riverdale Police Hold Suspects In Home Invasion
RIVERDALE, Ill. (CBS) -- Police in south suburban Riverdale are holding suspects in a home invasion overnight, which was followed by a standoff in another house.
The home invasion happened around 10:41 p.m. Wednesday in the 14000 block of Stewart Avenue, police said. The victim called police after the armed suspects left this apartment and fled in his car, which they had stolen, police said.
Police found the vehicle in the 14200 block of Normal Avenue a few blocks away, with the suspects in and around it.
The suspects ran into a nearby home, and holed up there for a short time before officers arrested them without incident, police said.
Police said there were "several" suspects in custody as of mid-morning Thursday, but they did not specify how many.
Police say a crime spree has swept over Riverdale and several other near south suburbs, as well as parts of Chicago's Far South Side.
Riverdale Mayor Deyon L. Dean has called upon 16 suburban mayors and police chiefs to address the crime wave on Sunday. Ald. Carrie Austin (34th), who represents parts of the Far South Side, will also be in attendance.
The meeting is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at 725 W. 138th St. in Riverdale.
