What Rivera Learned After Departure From Chicago

Forced to part ways from the Bears coaching staff after the 2006 Super Bowl appearance, Ron Rivera learned a big lesson.
"It was always about business, and that it was big business," Rivera said. "And that you had to make sure you had a plan for yourself, and react to it. Your plan has to be versatile, it has to be fluid. You have to be able to change it. And that's really what I did. I just kind of changed it. I knew I'd have to take a step back. But I knew if I continued to work hard, and did things the right way, I'd get that opportunity again."
He got that opportunity when he went to San Diego and learned the 3-4 defense. And by running it successfully as a coordinator, he earned himself the head coaching job in Carolina.
But always a part of Chicago, Rivera wore his 1985 Super Bowl Championship ring at the NFL's Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.
