Rivals Accuse Riverdale Mayor, Clerk Of Misusing Village Credit Cards
The slate that wants to knock them out of office is accusing the mayor and the clerk of misusing village credit cards.
So the slate - called the Integrity Party - distributed thousands of door-to-door fliers.
Incumbent Village Clerk Deborah Smiley says that flier listed the account numbers of the village credit cards.
"My concern was that the credit card numbers have been disseminated to the entire community, putting the community at risk. And I don't know to date if the cards have been used. I won't know for another week or so."
The leader of the Integrity Party - which distributed the fliers with the credit card numbers is Trustee Lawrence Jackson, who's running for mayor.
Jackson says he thought the accounts had been closed.
Jackson is accusing Clerk Deborah Smiley of improperly using the village cards - for example - allowing her husband to buy an Amtrak ticket.
