Rival Gang Members Hired By Same Temp Agency, Fight On Break

TINLEY PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- The past couple of nights have been busy ones for police in southwest suburban Tinley Park.

As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, Tinley Park police say there was a gang-related shooting around 183rd Street and Oak Park Avenue Tuesday night.

Mayor Ed Zabrocki says members of rival gangs who had been hired by the same agency, and worked at a coffee company warehouse, mixed it up outside a liquor store during one of their breaks.

Zabrocki says they "got into a shouting match. Somebody threw a bottle at a car. Somebody else fired off a couple of rounds," and then they all went back to the warehouse to work after the break.

"The supervisor of the warehouse found out what happened, and he immediately called the police," Zabrocki said.

Seven people were taken into custody.

But that was not the only crime in the headlines in Tinley Park this week. On Thursday night, a person returned home to find two burglars inside around 168th Street and New England Avenue, Zabrocki said.

The burglars ran out. Zabrocki said a massive search – including the use of a Chicago Police helicopter – resulted in one person being arrested.
