Ripken: Ventura Will Be Fine
(WSCR) While the hiring of Robin Ventura as White Sox manager caught most of the baseball world by surprise, one Hall of Famer isn't too worried about Ventura taking over on the South Side.
"I wouldn't worry too much about it," Iron Man Cal Ripken Jr. told The Mully and Hanley Show on Wednesday. "I think you first look at how good of a baseball person he is. There's going to be a learning curve no matter who it is -- whether you have 14 years in the minor leagues or you've done something else -- when you sit in the hot seat. I think the staff that you build around him, the bench coach is certainly important."

Though Ventura wasn't on most people's radar as Ozzie Guillen's successor, Ripken thinks the fans should trust general manager Kenny Williams' judgement.
"Robin Ventura is a great baseball guy," Ripken said. "If Kenny Williams can project him, and he knows far better than I, in that role and he has confidence in him, you gotta accept the fact that he thinks he can do the job."
