Riggleman Resigns As Nationals Manager Before White Sox Series
(CBS) Jim Riggleman abruptly resigned Thursday as Washington Nationals manager, General Manager Mike Rizzo announced after the Nationals beat the Mariners 1-0.
Washington has won 11 of 12 games and are on their way to Chicago for a three-game series against the White Sox that starts Friday.
"Very disappointing," Rizzo said. "Very disappointing and disappointing to the players in the clubhouse."
Rizzo said Riggleman approached him before Thursday's game against the Mariners and said if his option for next year wasn't picked up, he wouldn't get on the team bus after the game. The option wasn't picked up and Riggleman submitted his resignation after the Nationals beat the Mariners 1-0 in the ninth inning.
