Ricketts: Cubs Have Potential To Be 'Special Team'
Opening day, for every Major League team, is filled with optimism, and no team exemplifies that more than the Chicago Cubs. And maybe no owner exemplifies that quite like Tom Ricketts.
"I think this team has potential to be a special team this year," Ricketts said on the Mully and Hanley Show.
But Ricketts isn't unfounded in his assessment of the team. After a dismal 2010 season, the Cubs may not have added high-priced free agents like they have in the past, but they added enough quality players to ensure that they can't be written off before the season starts.
"It's more than just the guys we brought in and what they do in the field, it's really the character of the people we brought in and the energy they bring to the clubhouse," Ricketts said. "And you bring in that kind of positive energy, that kind of positive vibe, you turn it over to [Mike] Quade, who's been active and engaged. You know, he has the players believing and I think he's going to be a great manager."
All of the optimism in the world won't win the Cubs any games. Winning has to happen on the field, and it starts with the Pittsburgh Pirates.
