Restaurant Employee Charged With Stabbing 2 Co-Workers

ELK GROVE VILLAGE, Ill. (CBS) -- An employee of a Chinese restaurant in Elk Grove Village stands charged with stabbing two co-workers.
Xiubin Mei, 60, of Chicago became involved in a dispute with Hui Yi Li, 51, of Chicago and Rui Zhong, 43, of Darien at the China Bowl restaurant, 124 Turner Ave. in Elk Grove Village, where the three worked.
The motive for the stabbing has not been learned.
The victims were taken to area hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. A woman was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, and a man was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, fire Chief Bill Balling said.
Also taken to Alexian Brothers was the suspect, who was in police custody when he was brought to the hospital.
Mei was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery, according to Elk Grove police.
He appeared for a bond hearing on Tuesday and was ordered held on $100,000 bond, Cook County State's Attorney's office spokesman Andy Conklin said. A preliminary hearing was set for Sept. 8 in Rolling Meadows.
