Residents Rescued From Burning Building In Ravenswood
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Quick action from firefighters helped save residents overnight at an apartment building in the Ravenswood neighborhood.
The fire broke out around 11:30 p.m. Monday in a courtyard building on Rockwell Street just north of Montrose Avenue.
Firefighters arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the windows.
The battalion chief on the scene praised the quick work of crews, who used ladders to rescue people trapped on the upper floors.
"The guys did a fantastic job here making the rescues – very dramatic," said Fire Battalion Chief Maria DeCaussin.
One person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation, but did not need to go to the hospital.
The cause of the fire was under investigation Tuesday morning.
