Rescued From Kendall Hoarder, Cats Looking For Home
YORKVILLE (CBS) -- In July, Kendall County Animal Control was asked by other county agencies to assist at a home that had several cats inside.
Warned ahead of time that this was hoarding situation, Animal Control staff prepared itself to intake a large number of animals. Pulling up to the unassuming home, a person would never guess what was going on inside, said Anna Payton, Kendall County Animal Control warden.
"Walking into the main area of the home, we were immediately overcome with the intense smell of ammonia and feces," Payton said.
"The amount of stuff and filth in the home was unbelievable. There were very few places that you could actually see and walk on the floor. The fact that anything was living in these conditions is incredibly heart breaking."
The cats were immediately brought to the veterinarian hospital and given full exams.
The last two cats from the hoarding situation are now up for adoption. The cats, Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers, were dewormed and received their distemper vaccine. They tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV. The vet discovered their only main health concern was ear infections, and they have been treated, Payton said.
Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers are 2-year-old domestic short hairs. With their shining, healthy black coats and outgoing personalities, Payton said a person would never guess that the cats were rescued from horrendous living conditions.
Whiskers and Mr. Whiskers are available for adoption at Kendall County Animal Control, at 802 W. John St., off of Route 34 in Yorkville. They are both very social and enjoy being around people.
