Report: White Sox, Pirates Discussing Peavy, Rios & Ramirez Trade Scenarios
(CBS) Over the next 24 hours, trade rumors will be flying all across Major League Baseball.
The latest rumor comes from USA Today's John Perrotto, who reports the White Sox and Pirates are in discussions on a deal that would send Jake Peavy and Alexei Ramirez to Pittsburgh in exchange for Jameson Taillon, Alex Dickerson and at least one other prospect.
Peavy has been scratched from his scheduled start Tuesday night. Right-hander Andre Rienzo will start in his place.
CSN's David Kaplan also reported the Pirates were "close" to acquiring outfielder Alex Rios from the White Sox.
Peavy and Rios have one year left on their contracts with $14.5 million and $13 million remaining, respectively. Ramirez has two years and $19.5 million remaining.
The validity of these rumors remains to be seen, but it's clear discussions between the two teams are escalating.
It seems likely the Pirates would make a move, as they're currently a half-game out of first place in the National League Central. They haven't made the playoffs since 1992.
Multiple reports also link Peavy to the Diamondbacks.
