Report: Weis Took Home $76K Lump Sum
CHICAGO (CBS) -- There is still no word on the next career move for Jody Weis after his three years as Chicago's police superintendent.
But as WBBM Newsradio 780's Regine Schlesinger reports, he has a cushion from the city as he looks for his next job.
Weis resigned on March 1 when his contract expired, and then-Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel had already made it clear he would not keep the police superintendent in his post.
The Chicago Sun-Times reported that upon leaving his $310,000 per year job, Weis collected a lump-sum payment of $76,308 for 64 accrued vacation days he never used.

Weis' former chief of staff, Mike Masters, left his nearly $170,000 a year job with a payment of $30,448 for 54 unused vacation days, the Sun-Times reported.
The newspaper reports the Police Department awards 25 vacation days to sworn personnel, but only 13 for civilian employees. Weis fell into the sworn personnel category after taking a firearms course that allowed him to carry a gun and wear a police uniform, the Sun-Times reported.
Through a Freedom of Information Act request, the Sun-Times determined those payouts are among $7.4 million for 1,026 city employees who were paid for their unused vacation days during the transition from the administration of Mayor Richard M. Daley to that of Emanuel.
Besides Weis, the highest of those payments went to Chicago Fire Department brass who left the department between September of last year, when Mayor Daley announced his retirement, and the present month.
