Report: Twins Expressing Interest In 2 Cubs Executives
(CBS) The Twins have interest in Cubs senior vice president of scouting and player development Jason McLeod and assistant general manager Shiraz Rehman as they continue their search for a top baseball executive, Fox Sports' Jon Morosi reported Wednesday. Minnesota fired general manager Terry Ryan in July.
That the names of Cubs executives would be floated as potential candidates for potential general manager/president of baseball operation openings comes as little surprise. In years past, the Padres have been among those to express interest in McLeod, and McLeod and Rehman were both on the Mariners' radar last season.
Both McLeod and Rehman have been with the Cubs since late 2011, when president of baseball operations Theo Epstein was brought to Chicago to see a rebuild from the ground up that was marked by a breakout season in 2015 and now the Cubs sporting an MLB-best 89-49 record.
Epstein and the Cubs have long been prepared for the possibility of losing front office members to better jobs.
"I don't really worry about losing people," Epstein told reporters in September 2015. "But if we do, I think we have a very deep organization with another layer ready to step up. We have depth in the front office."
As for Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer, they're not going anywhere until the Cubs have broken their championship drought -- Epstein has said as much.
"Everyone knows we're not going anywhere until we win this thing and have a big parade," Epstein said on 670 The Score in July.
