Tucker Named Bears' Defensive Coordinator
(CBS) -- Mel Tucker will be the Chicago Bears' next defensive coordinator.
The team announced the deal Friday evening. Tucker previously worked as the defensive coordinator for the Jaguars. Earlier in his NFL career, he spent four years with the Cleveland Browns.
In the wake of Marc Trestman's hiring as Bears head coach, former defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli elected to search for a new opportunity.
The 41-year-old Tucker has experience running both the 4-3 and 3-4 defensive schemes. He's worked with coaches such as Nick Saban, Romeo Crennel and Jack Del Rio.
Tucker went 2-3 as interim head coach of the Jaguars after Del Rio was dismissed in 2011.
