Report: Tollway Paid Out Nearly $4 Million In Overtime Last Year
DOWNERS GROVE, Ill. (CBS) -- A new report says overtime pay for people who work for the Illinois Tollway system was nearly $4 million last year.
As WBBM Newsradio's Bernie Tafoya reports, one Illinois Toll Highway Authority worker took in $39,000 in overtime pay last year, according to the Chicago Tribune.
That worker was Lisa Williams, who is the Toll Highway Authority's equal opportunity, disabilities, affirmative action and ethics officer, the Tribune reported. The overtime bumped up her $76,000 salary to $115,000, the newspaper reported.
Tollway executive director Kristi LaFleur tells the Tribune that Williams does the work of two people, and puts in 60- and 70-hour work weeks.
LaFleur defends the amount of overtime pay last year, which also saw tolls rise significantly. She says overtime pay only went to a small percentage of the 1,600 workers at the agency, the Tribune reported.
