Report: Sox Sign Danks To 5-Year, $65M Extension
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The White Sox are reportedly close to a 5-year contract extension for lefty starter John Danks.
Just weeks after letting longtime starter Mark Buehrle leave for the Miami Marlins for a 4-year, $58 million deal, the Sox are on the verge of signing Danks to a 5-year, $65 million extension, according to the Sun-Times.
The deal is not yet official and Danks would first have to pass a physical.
Danks was set to earn $8-9 million in arbitration for 2012 and would have become a free agent after the season. The Sox had been trying to trade him for top prospects, but couldn't find a trade partner.
The team might now focus on shopping righty Gavin Floyd, who has one year and an option year left on his contract.
