Soriano Dealt To Yankees
CHICAGO (CBS) - After years of trying, the Cubs have finally moved Alfonso Soriano.
The Cubs have finalized a deal to send the left fielder to the Yankees in exchange for 21-year-old right-hander Corey Black.
The Yankees will receive $17.7 million from the Cubs to cover part of the $24.5 million owed to Soriano.
Soriano, 27, departs the Cubs after almost seven seasons on the North Side since joining the club prior to the 2007 season. He leaves ranked 11th on the club's all-time home run list with 181 home runs. Overall, Soriano batted .264 with 218 doubles, 13 triples, 526 RBI and 469 runs scored in 889 games.
The 21-year-old Black is 3.8 with a 4.25 ERA in 19 starts for Single-A Tampa. He's struck out 88 batters in 82 2/3 innings with 45 walks.
Soriano, who began his career with the Yankees, is slated to play left field and bat fourth as the Yankees take on the Ray on Friday night.
