Report: Sandberg Still Interested In Cubs' Job
(CBS) Right now, there is no managerial opening with the Cubs. But if there were, Ryne Sandberg would be open to interviewing for the job, according to the Chicago Tribune's Paul Sullivan.
Sandberg interviewed for the same job with the Cubs last year, but former general manager Jim Hendry chose to retain Mike Quade who took over for Lou Piniella mid-way through the 2010 season.
But now that Hendry was let go and the Cubs sit at 56-71, it appears likely the new general manager will want to go in a different direction. That means Sandberg, who is currently managing the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Triple-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies, could be a candidate for the job once again. According to the report, there were no bridges burned between Sandberg and the Ricketts family last time around and the former Cubs second baseman is still interested in the job.
