Ricketts Family Buys 3 More Rooftops Across From Wrigley Field
(CBS) The Ricketts family, which owns the Cubs, has bought three more rooftop businesses across from Wrigley Field. The purchases bring their total of rooftop properties to 10 for their Wrigley Rooftops business, as the ownership group continues its effort to control a greater flow of money around their iconic stadium.
DNAinfo.com Chicago first reported the news Wednesday.
The newly acquired rooftops were purchased from Beyond the Ivy and are located at 1010 W. Waveland Ave., 1038 W. Waveland and 1048 W. Waveland.
These moves come just days after new details emerged on the Cubs' plans for the under-construction outdoor plaza west of Wrigley Field. On that front, the Cubs hope the plaza, replete with a large beer garden, is a pregame and postgame draw for fans, and they want to use the facility to attract visitors on non-gamedays and out of baseball season as well with the likes of farmers markets, an ice rink and movies in the park.
There are 16 rooftop businesses around Wrigley Field, Danny Ecker of Crain's Chicago Business has previously reported, so the Ricketts family now owns more than half of them.
