(CBS) The holiday weekend took an unfortunate turn for members of Sean Matti's family and members of the Purdue football program. Matti, a fifth year walk-on running back, was last seen swimming in a lake around 5 p.m. Sunday and his body was found Tuesday morning.
According to the West Lafayette Journal and Courier, Matti was partying with friends at a house on the shore of Lake Freeman. The newspaper reports that others at the party spent six hours searching for Matti, and then contacted officials who used divers, search dogs and an Indiana State Police fixed-wing airplane to an attempt to locate the Shoreview, Minnesota native.
After being unable to locate Matti during their search on Sunday and Monday, they resumed their efforts on Tuesday morning.
According to WLFI, who cited the Carroll County Sheriff's Department, Matti's body was recovered floating in the water on Lake Freeman 30 yards from shore on Tuesday morning.
