Report: Paterno Has Lung Cancer
(CBS) Former Penn State coach Joe Paterno has a treatable form of lung cancer, his son Scott told the AP in a statement Friday.
In the statement, Scott Paterno said: "His doctors are optimistic he will make a full recovery."
The diagnosis was made during a follow-up visit last weekend for a bronchial illness.
The news comes on the same day the NCAA informed Penn State it will launch an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of children by former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky and the alleged cover-up by school officials. Paterno was fired as Penn State's head football coach Nov. 9 after his involvement in the scandal was revealed.

In a separate report, the Pennsylvania newspaper, The Citizens' Voice, reported Friday that Paterno visited a campus infirmary and a local hospital for treatment of an undisclosed issue Wednesday night.
The newspaper cites sources which said Paterno, 84, was treated at the hospital but was not admitted.
The report also says "a local television station aired video Thursday morning of a man in a white laboratory coat aiding Paterno down a stairway outside the campus infirmary, but did not appear to pursue the matter further."
