Report: Panthers To Interview Ex-Bear Rivera
CHARLOTTE, N.C. An NFL source tells the NBC sports site ProFootballTalk.com that the Carolina Panthers plan to interview San Diego Chargers defensive coordinator and former Bears great Ron Rivera for the team's top job.
The report says the date of the planned meeting is not known.
Rivera played for the Bears for nine seasons, from 1984 to 1992, and played in the Bears' fabled Super Bowl XX on Jan. 26, 1986. He returned to the Bears as defensive coordinator in 2005, and was with the team for their more recent Super Bowl trip in the 2006-2007 season. He left the team after the Bears lost the Super Bowl that season.
The Bears are set to play the Panthers on Jan. 16.
