Report: Pacers' Vogel 'Coaching For His Job'
(CBS) After his Indiana Pacers went on a late-season slide during a year of big expectations, Frank Vogel is "coaching for his job," according to an ESPN.com report.
The Pacers secured the Eastern Conference's top seed after a 56-win regular season, but they were a mess down the stretch and finished the season 16-15 in their final 31 games. Indiana is currently tied 1-1 in its first-round playoff series with eighth-seeded Atlanta.
ESPN.com reported that "coming back to win the series against the Hawks would not automatically ensure Vogel's safety."
More from ESPN.com:
The decision on whether to retain Vogel at season's end ultimately rests with Pacers president Larry Bird, sources said, but frustration throughout the organization has been mounting thanks to a nosedive that began in February with a loss in Orlando just before the All-Star break and has show few signs of abating.
Team sources on Wednesday confirmed a Yahoo! Sports report that Lance Stephenson and Pacers newcomer Turner got into a practice-floor fight on the eve of Game 1 against Atlanta. But sources told ESPN.com that it's not even the first time in recent weeks that Stephenson has clashed with a teammate.
