Report: NFL Has Asked Potential Super Bowl Halftime Acts To Pay To Play
(CBS) We knew the NFL was all about the money, but this is really a new one.
The league has asked the artists in consideration to perform at halftime of the 2015 Super Bowl to pay for the right to be play in the most-watched TV event of the year, according to a Wall Street Journal report.
Rihanna, Katy Perry and Coldplay are reportedly the three candidates the NFL is looking at to play next February in Glendale, Ariz. The NFL typically doesn't pay the artists, the WSJ reported, but this move to ask for financial support in return is new.
From the WSJ:
The NFL has narrowed down the list of potential performers for the 2015 Super Bowl to three candidates: Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Coldplay, these people said. While notifying the artists' camps of their candidacy, league representatives also asked at least some of the acts if they would be willing to contribute a portion of their post-Super Bowl tour income to the league, or if they would make some other type of financial contribution, in exchange for the halftime gig.
Not much to do except wait and watch people and organizations with big egos try to get their way.
