Report: Mike Martz Not Happy With Contract
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz could conceivably walk if he doesn't get a raise, according to a published report.
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Mike Mulligan reported Tuesday morning that Martz recently declined a one-year contract extension that didn't include a raise. He is scheduled to make $1 million in 2011, Mulligan reported.
Mulligan raises the possibility that Martz could decide he doesn't need the $1 million and walk away.
The Bears hired Martz in February 2010, replacing the fired Ron Turner. His job was to get the most out of quarterback Jay Cutler, to whom he is personally close.
He was known as the coach who orchestrated the "Greatest Show on Turf" while molding Kurt Warner into a Pro Bowl quarterback with the St. Louis Rams.
For the current year, the only Bears staffer to get a significant raise this offseason was offensive line coach Mike Tice, and he only got the deal after the team wouldn't let him interview for an offensive coordinator post, Mulligan reported.
