Report: McCamey Signs 1-Year Deal With Turkish Team
(CBS) Former Illinois guard Demetri McCamey has signed a one-year deal with Mersin, a professional basketball team in Turkey, according to the Chicago Tribune.
McCamey went undrafted in last month's NBA Draft and was advised to play overseas for a year and try to sign as a free agent with an NBA team next year, the report said.
His decision was influenced by the NBA lockout. It's possible NBA games aren't even played next season.
McCamey's agent, Roger Montgomery, claims that a few teams, including the Bulls, were interested in drafting McCamey in the second round, but they wanted a guarantee that he would play overseas for a year. Montgomery said he felt it was better for McCamey to go undrafted and become a free agent, the report said.
