Report: Marlins Still Open To Trading For Ozzie
MIAMI (CBS) -- The Florida Marlins are considering trading a player to snag White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen, according to a published report.
Miami Herald Sports Buzz writer Barry Jackson reported Sunday that the Marlins "haven't ruled out trading a player (certainly not a key one)" for Guillen, "but would prefer not to."
The team is waiting to find out about Guillen's availability before moving on to another managerial candidate, Jackson reported.
In a column late last month by the Chicago Sun-Times' Joe Cowley, Guillen repeated earlier statements that he wanted to stay with the White Sox, "but only if they want to keep me here."
The comments came amid reports by the Sun-Times that the relationship between White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen and general manager Kenny Williams as "beyond repair," and that team chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has reached the point where he no longer wants them working together.
Guillen, of course, is under contract for 2012. But sources told the Sun-Times in late August that the White Sox have been "getting a feel" for possible new managers, and that talks were being renewed about sending Guillen off to the Marlins.
