Suspect In Death Of Hanover Park Woman Shot By Police
UPDATED 08/26/11 11:40 a.m.
HANOVER PARK, Ill. (CBS) -- A 40-year-old woman was found dead in her Hanover Park home Thursday morning and police said Friday that a suspect was shot by police in Lockport.
At 10:45 a.m., police responded to a home in the 5700 block of Barr Ct. in Hanover Park for a well-being check and found the woman murdered inside, Hanover Park Deputy Police Chief Tom Cortese said.
Lockport police said Friday that a person of interest in the death investigation, identified as 50-year-old Jeffrey Ferrigan of Hanover Park, was shot by police.
With the assistance of Lockport police, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Cook County Police, Ferrigan was located in the area of 300 block of West 16th Street in Lockport.
Police said Ferrigan was armed with a knife and approached the officers in a threatening manner. He refused to drop the knife and was shot.
Ferrigan was transported to Silver Cross Hospital in Joliet, police said.
Cortese would not say how the woman died, nor whether there were signs of forced entry in her home.
A spokeswoman for the DuPage County Coroner's office confirmed the death but said the DuPage County State's Attorney's office is handling the investigation. A spokesman there was not immediately available.
"It's a very complicated investigation,'' said Cortese.
