Report: Lack Of Towing, Other Revenues In Olympia Fields Have Caused Budget Crisis
OLYMPIA FIELDS, Ill. (CBS) -- Drivers in Olympia Fields may want to watch where they park, to avoid becoming part of the south suburb's answer to its budget crisis.
As WBBM Newsradio's Nancy Harty reports, the SouthtownStar reports Olympia Fields village manager David Mekarski sent a memo to village employees last month, telling them that if slumping revenues continue in a number of categories – including vehicle towing and impact fees – they will not get raises.
Towing is one of those categories.
Mekarski said he was not asking Olympia Fields police to step up their towing, but simply pointing out how a drop in revenue in any area negates a chance for raises, and the towing revenue is down 65 percent from the prior year, the newspaper reported.
In total, the village has seen a revenue drop of $279,000 in a number of categories, and would need to be $30,000 in the black for each employee to get a 1 percent raise, the SouthtownStar reported.
