Report: Knicks Have Internally Discussed Trading For Bulls' Derrick Rose
(CBS) There may be a trade market for Bulls point guard Derrick Rose after all.
The Knicks have had internal discussions about making a deal with the Bulls to acquire Rose, ESPN.com reported Friday afternoon. It's the first time this offseason that a specific team has been linked to having interest in trading for Rose, who's due $21.3 million in the last year of his contract in 2016-'17.
There's certainly been plenty of speculation about Rose being available, spurred on by Bulls management indicating after a disappointing 2015-'16 season that all moves will be on the table moving forward. The Knicks also fit the bill for needing a point guard. Incumbent starter Jose Calderon averaged 7.6 points on 45.9 percent shooting and 4.1 assists last season.
The 27-year-old Rose averaged 16.4 points on 42.7 percent shooting last season, adding 4.7 assists. While still dealing with myriad ailments, he did play in 66 games, his most since his MVP season of 2010-'11.
It wasn't immediately clear around whom a potential deal could be formed. Complicating matters somewhat is that the Knicks don't own a draft pick this year and don't have an abundance of strong trade chips in the form of players.
