Report: Jon Lester Declines Giants' Offer, Cubs Still In Mix

(CBS) -- Coveted free agent left-hander Jon Lester has narrowed down his list of potential teams by calling the Giants and declining their offer, according to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman.

With the Giants out of contention, that leaves the Cubs, the Boston Red Sox and possibly the Los Angeles Dodgers as potential landing sports for Lester, according to Heyman. Most believe it will take a six- or seven-year deal worth around $150 million to land Lester -- though some rumors have had the price going higher.

The 30-year-old Lester went 16-11 with a 2.45 ERA in 2014 in time split between Boston and Oakland.

Lester has a career 3.58 ERA and 116-67 record in nine seasons, the first eight-and-a-half of which were spent with the Red Sox.

He also has connections to the Cubs, as front office members Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer worked in Boston early in Lester's career there.
