Report: Inspectors Find Multiple Hazards On Red, Blue Line CTA Trains
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Watch your step in the CTA's Red and Blue Line subways.
The Chicago Tribune reports CTA safety inspectors found more than 260 defects in the subways including burned-out lights, broken handrails, broken emergency phones and cracks in emergency-escape catwalks that pose a tripping hazard.
The paper says there are dozens of other problems involving the condition of emergency exits to the streets.
CTA officials say the subway tunnels are significantly safer now after improvements following major train derailments in 2006 and 2008.
