Report: Haviland A Finalist For Winnipeg Job
CHICAGO (CBS) Chicago Blackhawks assistant coach Mike Haviland is one of two finalists for the Winnipeg head coaching job, according to the Winnipeg Free Press.
Winnipeg General Manager Kevin Cheveldayoff -- previously the Blackhawks' assistant GM -- narrowed the search down to Haviland and Manitoba Moose head coach Claude Noel.
The Moose were Winnipeg's IHL/AHL team since 1996, but are moving to St. John's, N.L. now that the city is getting an NHL team.
According to the report, Craig Ramsey, who was the Atlanta Thrashers head coach last season, and former Edmonton Oilers head coach Craig MacTavish were told they are no longer a candidates for the job.
