Report: Guillen Talks To Zambrano About Coming To Miami
(CBS) According to MLB.com, the Venezuelan-based newspaper El Nacional is reporting former White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen has had talks with Cubs pitcher Carlos Zambrano about joining him on the Marlins.
The report says Guillen and Zambrano, who are close friends, talked about the idea over the phone.
Zambrano still has one year left on his deal with the Cubs and is owed $18 million in 2012 so the only way he could join the Marlins would be via trade, unless the Cubs choose to flat out release him. Either way, the Cubs are going to have to pick up the majority of Zambrano's contract as their hands are tied.
Zambrano left a game in early September and threatened to retire before changing his mind. The Cubs placed him on the disqualified list and he didn't pitch for the rest of the season.
