Report: Facebook Squabble Led To Violent Attack On High School Girl
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A Facebook and Twitter rivalry between high school girls has resulted in suspensions and a referral for expulsion, after a girl was attacked in the school hallway.
Chicago Public Schools officials confirm to CBS 2 that an incident involving several girls is being investigated at the Chicago Academy of Advance Technology, 1301 W. 14th St.
The girls apparently got into a fight over Facebook comments, and the fight allegedly involved one of the girls being hit with locks.
The Chicago Sun-Times' Mary Mitchell reports sophomore Jenise L. Williams, 16, was attacked with locks in the school hallway recently by two or three daughters, following a back-and-forth squabble on Facebook.
Williams' mother said the other girls had been calling her daughter a "ho" on Facebook, and beat her in the head with the locks, Mitchell reported.
School executive director Matt Hancock told Mitchell that an unspecified number of suspensions and a referral for expulsion had been issued in response to the incident.
Williams told Mitchell this was the second time she has been suspended for fighting. She said after the latest fight, she discovered eth school was trending on Twitter, and people were tweeting that sophomores had beaten up the juniors and retaliation would be coming the following day.
Williams had posted a comment about a male classmate on her Facebook page prior to the attack, and the she told Mitchell the girl who later attacked her left a comment calling her a "ho."
