Cutler Broke Thumb, Could Be Out 'A While'
(CBS) The Bears' impressive 31-20 win over the Chargers Sunday quickly turned sour after quarterback Jay Cutler broke the thumb in his throwing hand and could miss significant time.
The Chicago Tribune's Vaughn McClure first reported the injury and wrote on Twitter: "Source says the Bears are preparing to move forward without Cutler "for a while.''
Cutler broke the thumb chasing down Antoine Cason after a fourth quarter interception. He slowed the defensive back up enough for Matt Forte to shove him out of bounds saving a touchdown.
"That might have been the biggest play of the game," head coach Lovie Smith said without mentioning the injury. "We don't want Jay to make a lot of tackles, but sometimes you have to."
Cutler likely will miss the rest of the regular season, according to reports. Backup Caleb Hanie will take over as quarterback.
