Report: Cubs To Completely Rebuild, Won't Sign Fielder
(CBS) Not only are the Cubs not players for Prince Fielder, but Theo Epstein plans to completely rebuild, according to CSNChicago's David Kaplan.
In a report on CSNChicago.com, Kaplan says "a complete and total rebuild of the Cubs is more likely than ever to take place during the remainder of the off-season."
Kaplan cites two sources that confirm the Cubs will not offer free agent first baseman Prince Fielder a contract. In fact, those sources "expect the Cubs to try to move most of their valuable assets before spring training and that a complete overhaul of the team will definitely happen."
The report also indicates pitcher Sean Marshall is on the trading block, but a deal with Cincinnati for Travis Wood is not as close as some reports have indicated.
