Cubs' Deal With Scott Hairston Delayed By Roster Issues
(CBS) - In a move to stabilize their outfield, the Cubs have agreed to a two-year contract with Scott Hairston.
670 The Score's Dan Bernstein first reported the news Wednesday during The Boers and Bernstein Show.
A report from the Tribune indicates the deal may be delayed, however, because the Cubs' roster is currently at 40 men, with right-hander Carlos Villanueva still to be added.
The Cubs will need to cut two players in order to add Hairston and Villanueva.
The 32-year-old Hairston spent the last two seasons with the Mets, hitting .263 with a career-high 20 home runs last season.
The versatile Hairston can play all three outfield spots, which may give the Cubs some flexibility to trade left-fielder Alfonso Soriano.
