Report: Cubs In Serious Talks To Trade Garza To Detroit
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The Cubs are in serious talks with the Detroit Tigers to trade away pitcher Matt Garza for a package of prospects, according to a published report.
David Kaplan of Comcast SportsNet reports that "excellent baseball sources" have confirmed to him that the Cubs are "down the road" in trade talks with the Tigers.
Kaplan says the Tigers are willing to meet the Cubs' asking price of multiple high-regarded prospects, unlike the New York Yankees, who wanted Garza but balked at the price.
Some sources, including Matt Snyder of CBS Sports, believe the trade is likely connected with the Cubs' signing of pitcher Paul Maholm, most recently of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
