Rangers Get Dempster
(WSCR) The Ryan Dempster trade saga is over.
The Cubs dealt the veteran right-hander to the Rangers in exchange for right-handed pitcher Kyle Hendricks and infielder Christian Villanueva.
Hendricks, 22, was selected by the Rangers in the eighth round of the 2011 draft. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound right-hander is 5-8 with a 2.82 ERA in 20 starts for Single-A Myrtle Beach this season, earning Carolina League mid-season All-Star honors.
The 21-year-old Villanueva is batting .285 (107-for-375) with 19 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 59 RBI in 100 games with Single-A Myrtle Beach this season. Villanueva originally signed with the Rangers as a non-drafted free agent in August of 2008
Early reports said the Cubs were finalizing a deal that would send the veteran right-hander to the Dodgers.
The Cubs had reportedly agreed to trade Dempster to the Braves early last week as well, though Dempster used his 10-5 rights to vetoe the trade.
