Report: Cubs Bring In Camp For Relief Help
(WSCR) To help bolster their pitching staff, the Cubs have signed Shawn Camp to a minor league deal.
According to a report, Camp was released by the Mariners last week, and signed with the Cubs a few days later.
Camp is 25-26 with a 4.40 ERA in eight seasons with Kansas City, Tampa Bay and Toronto. He was 6-3 with a 4.21 ERA with the Blue Jays in 2011.
"I was a little surprised," Camp said. "I was having a good spring and came in on a major league deal. They just decided to go in a different direction, decided to go with youth. For me, it was kind of a shock, but to tell you the truth, it doesn't surprise me.
"I'm just really happy to be here. There's really nothing else I can say about it."
