Report: Couple Left Young Daughter Alone For 6 Hours While Burglarizing Cars
WHEELING, Ill. (CBS) -- A 22-month-old girl was in the custody of the State of Illinois Friday morning, after police say her parents left her home alone while they burglarized cars in northwest suburban Wheeling.
As WBBM Newsradio's Dave Berner reports, Eric Harris, 21, and Emeline Vernillet, 22, both of Wheeling, stand charged with burglary, according to a Chicago Tribune report. Their bonds were set at $20,000 and $10,000 in Rolling Meadows Court, the Tribune reported.
A third suspect, Daniel Parker, 22, of Schaumburg is also charged with burglary, and his bond was set at $30,000, the newspaper reported.
Authorities say all were arrested along Valley Stream Drive in Wheeling early Thursday morning, allegedly trying to break into cars. A resident called police.
Harris and Vernillet told police they had broken into two automobiles, and had left their daughter alone for about six hours, the Tribune reported.
Police went to the residence, found the child, and placed her into the custody of the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services.
