Buckeyes' Top RB Hyde Suspended From Team
(CBS) It was not a good weekend for the Ohio State football team.
Top Buckeyes running back Carlos Hyde has been suspended from the team pending the outcome of the student code of conduct and criminal investigations after being named a person of interest in a weekend assault against a female in a downtown Columbus bar. The Columbus Dispatch originally reported that Hyde had been dismissed from the team.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, starting cornerback Bradley Roby was arrested early Sunday morning in Bloomington, Ind. and is facing preliminary charges of battery resulting in bodily injury. According to the report, Roby "was asked to leave a bar after a disturbance, refused, and was subdued by bouncers at the bar before being taken into custody." He will not attend Big Ten Media Days in Chicago this week.
Roby is one of the better cornerbacks in the country and had a chance to leave early for the NFL after last season but chose to stay in Columbus. Hyde, meanwhile, ran for 970 yards last year and was primed for another big year.
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer has recently come under fire for the way he handled incidents involving his players when he was the head coach at Florida. The criticism started after Aaron Hernandez, who played for Meyer at Florida, was arrested and charged with murder last month. Last year at Ohio State, Meyer dismissed senior Storm Klein from the team after he was accused of having a physical altercation with a former girlfriend, but Klein was later reinstated after he was cleared of the charges.
The Buckeyes are widely considered the favorite in the Big Ten this season and a possible BCS National Championship contender.
