Report: Briggs Wants Out
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Bears linebacker Lance Briggs wants to be traded, and has filed a formal request to make that happen, according to a published report Friday morning.
The Chicago Tribune reported in its print edition Friday that Briggs' agent, Drew Rosenhaus, had filed the request for a trade.
The Tribune's Vaughn McClure quoted Briggs, "The Bears made the decision, now I have to make mine," and that "it's just how the business works." He says until he is traded, he will remain fully committed to the game on the field, the Tribune report said.
The Bears did not have any comment on the issue Thursday, according to the Tribune.
This report comes just five days after Briggs' gave the opposite impression about his future. In another interview with the Tribune's McClure, he said he didn't want to be traded, and just wanted a raise this season.
"I am not asking to be traded, nor do I want to be traded. I love it here. I am a Chicago Bear," Briggs told McClure in the Sunday report.
Briggs and his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, recently approached Bears general manager Jerry Angelo about restructuring his deal. He signed a six-year, $36 million deal three years ago, but the market has since gone up and Briggs feels like he deserves more. He is set to make $3.9 million this season.
"It's not just about me. I know there are guys on our team that deserve to be paid and should be paid," he told the Tribune on Sunday. "And I do act as a voice when I have an opportunity to do so. I've been that way all my life.
