Report: Brady Agrees To Cap-Friendly 3-Year Extension With Patriots
(CBS) Tom Brady is intent to retire as a Patriot and he'll do whatever he can to win another Super Bowl before his career is over.
That much is evident by the extremely cap-friendly, three-year extension he signed with New England Monday.
Sports Illustrated's Peter King reports the deal is worth just $27 million, which is less than half of what he's actually worth. The deal includes a $3 million signing bonus and will keep Brady locked up through 2017, when the quarterback will turn 40.
So why did he sign such a contract? It's simple: the deal saves the Patriots about $15 million in cap space, according to King, which will help keep the team competitive for the next five seasons while Brady is still around.
